Books bring me the greatest pleasure and I am surrounded by them. I don't think there is a room in the house where I don't have some books displayed. I love to read and I love to learn about new things, or about peoples lives who have lived in the past or about different periods of time and the history of those different periods. I like all kinds of books: history, biographies, auto-biographies, fiction, poetry, historical novels, mysteries, missionary stories, devotionals, commentaries, etc.
If you don't believe me when I say I have books in every room, let me show you.

Books in the hallway ....

In the guest room...

I have so many books on this bookshelf that I'm covering up the ones in back on two separate shelves.

In my office......

These are just two of the walls....there is a third one but I have things setting in front of it and it looks to messy to show right now.

In my livingroom....there are more shelves where the books are not so visable because there behind glass doors and on the otherside of the entertainment center, there are also more books. Basically, there are two more book shelves similar to these plus the ones behind the glass doors.

Books in my bedroom.....

on the wall....

Behind my chair and

In the kitchen with .....

a whole cabinet devoted to cookbooks.
I simply love books and now that I'm going to the gym, I even get to read while I'm on the treadmill before and after working out. What a luxury!
I share my books with friends who enjoy reading as much as I do and especially those who return them promptly and take care of them while they are in their possession. I would miss my books if I didn't have them. You are probably wondering if I have read them all. The answer is no but I probably have read at least half of them and am working on the other half.
If I run out of reading material, there is always the Library. We have an excellent library in our town and believe it or not, sometimes, I take books out of the library even though I have my own. That's how much I enjoy reading! But the book that gets my most attention is my Bible!

Wow! What a library you have in your home!! I love books too, and I hope to increase my collection of knitting books in particular this year. In this era of computers and other multi-media, I am so glad that books still remain as popular with people. Hooray for books! :)
I am the same way about books - although I don't know if I have as many as you. I love to read - and rarely get rid of a book. I also have a "to read" pile that keeps growing and growing.
You could open your own public library, Mom! LOL
I'm with you, Tina, I don't know what I would do if I didn't have my books. They are my main entertainment. You can learn so much from books.
I hope you are very successful in increasing your collection of knitting books especially since you gain so much pleasure from them and knitting.
Hugs,
Dianne
Clare, I also have a pile on a chair next to my bed of those I either am working on or intend to read soon. Some books like devotionals or inspirationals, I read a chapter at a time instead of devouring like I do novels. My pile never seems to get smaller because if I do finish one, it seems like two more gets added.
I never get rid of books either. Sometimes, I even reread them a couple of years down the road.
Blessings to you,
Dianne
I really could open a mini Library, Terri, but then I would be busy checking books out instead of reading them. But I do share, does that count, kinda?
Love,
Mom
Dianne,
Wow! A woman after my own heart! You are speaking my language! I love books. If my son is with me when going to the library or bookstore, he'll sometimes say 'Mom, you don't need another book' to which I just smile at him and proceed on.
Now if ever I am in NC again, I might have to call for a good book to read with warm conversation.
Miriam :)
Here is a quote that might love about books:
"Even when reading is impossible, the presence of books acquired produces such an ecstasy that the buying of more books than one can read is nothing less than the soul reaching towards infinity... we cherish books even if unread, their mere presence exudes comfort, their ready access, reassurance. "
A.E. Newton
Miriam,
Your comments were so wonderful about your love of books. What your son says to you is a picture of what my husband says to me when I start looking at books. I just have this thirst for books that won't be satisfied.
The poem by A. E. Newton says it all. It is comforting to know that someone understands just what we're about, don't you think? I will be writing down this poem to keep. Thanks for sharing, Miriam. :)
Oh yay! A kindred spirit! I have to show my DH all these pictures, he thinks that I have a lot of books! Hee Hee! :D
Courtney
I have a lot of books, too! I think I'd go crazy without them.
And my favorite by far is my bible. :)
That is a lot of books! :)
That is something else! As a lover of reading myself, I know I'd never be bored at your home!
How interesting! I also have lots of books and am beginning to run out of room for them. But getting rid of them is not an option for me:-)
